EXCERPT FROM

BOOK TWO OF THE REAL WORLD SERIES

DARK BEGINNINGS
BY

ELIZABETH LORD

Her eyes slid back to the painting against her will.  Her heart felt heavier than it had in her entire existence and her eyes pricked with unshed tears.

Her mind slipped to the W.H Auden poem ‘Funeral Blues’ and one particular verse kept repeating in her head:

The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun,
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the woods;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.”

Nothing would ever be the same again.  She had loved him, totally and irrevocably.

And now he was dead.
